Tawang is a very beautiful hill station like heaven situated in western most part of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the birth Place of 6th Dalai Lama (Tsangyang Gyatso) .The name Tawang is divided into two word i.e., (“TA” means Horse and “Wang” means blessing). It is Located at an height of 8,757 ft (2,669 metres) from mean sea level.The area of this district is approximately 2,172 Sq.km, bounded by Tibet (China) to the north, Bhutan to the south-west and Sela ranges separated from West Kameng district in the east. It is located approximately 555 kilometres from Guwahati (Assam) / 320 kilometres from Tezpur (Assam) / 440 kilometres from Itanagar. Tawang receives snowfall every year during December - March.
The culture of Tawang is highly influenced by the Tibetans and the Buddhist. The native people of this town are Monpa's. They celebrate three main festivals namely, Torgya, Lossar and Choekhor harvest. The local food of Tawang is Zan, a flat bread served with meat or vegetables.

Tourist Places to Visit :

1. Tawang Monastry :
It is the second largest Monastery in the world and it is the largest monastery in India. The Monastery was founded by Merag Lodroe Gyamtso in 1680-1681.
2. Urgelling Monastery  :
It is the birth place of 6th Dalai Lama (Tsangyang Gyatso). The Urgelling Gonpa are located at Tawang.
3. Jaswant Garh (War memorial) :
War memorial founded in memory of Martyrs of the 1962 India-China War.

7. Bumla Pass(Indo- China Border)
